Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service (DACAS)
DACAS is a free 24/7 telephone advisory service that assists health and welfare professionals in Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory to respond effectively to individuals with alcohol or other drug use problems.
All calls to DACAS are initially answered by experienced clinicians from Turning Point. Calls that require specialist medical advice are referred on to DACAS consultants for a secondary consultation. DACAS consultants are experienced addiction medical specialists working in Victoria.
All DACAS consultants aim to respond to requests for secondary consultation within one hour, or as soon as possible if the matter is urgent.
DACAS also provides oversight to the General Practitioner Clinical Advisory Service (GPCAS), a state-based service providing peer-to-peer advice and mentoring for general practitioners and nurse practitioners in Victoria.
DACAS is operated by Turning Point with funding from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.
Turning Point is a national addiction treatment centre, dedicated to providing high quality, evidence-based treatment to people affected by alcohol, drugs and addictive behaviours, integrated with world-leading research and education.
