The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service (DACAS) is a specialist telephone consultancy service that assists health and welfare professionals throughout Victoria to respond effectively to individuals with alcohol or other drug use problems.
All calls are answered by experienced clinicians from Turning Point. Calls that require specialist medical advice are referred to consultants who are addiction medicine specialists.
DACAS is operated by Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre with funding from the Victorian Department of Health.
Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre was established in 1994 to provide leadership to the alcohol and other drug sector in Victoria. Turning Point is formally affiliated with Monash University and amalgamated with public health provider Eastern Health in 2009.
The centre is part of the International Network of Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Resource Centres for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and a member of the International Harm Reduction Association.
Turning Point has been operating telephone advice lines for more than ten years and is a leading Australian provider of telephone and online programs.
